First part of two proceedure to build a discretized gene-sample matrix.  This script outputs two
lists of "up" and "down" probes for each sample from a real-valued gene-sample matrix. 
These "up" and "down" are then converted to the discretized gene-sample matrix and ouput
to standard output using the perl-script "make_gene_sample_matrix".
