AN £11.6m MEDICAL RESEARCH LABORATORY OFFICIALLY OPENED BY FIRST MINISTER ALEX SALMOND (21st Apr 09)

The facility can house up to 120 staff, who will work on developing new drugs and treatments. The scientists will focus on five main areas - cardiovascular, women's health, neurology, oncology and inflammation. Mr Salmond said it was a testament to "Scotland's world-class reputation in medical and scientific research".

NEW TMRC STUDY TO HELP STROKE VICTIMS (16th Oct 08)

The brain scanning methods used on stroke victims are to be studied, to see if more can be done to prevent lasting damage from the condition. Researchers from Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Glasgow universities want to see if damaged tissue can be salvaged.
